Florance Southworth, 92, of Killeen passed away peacefully on Jul 31 2017. Born Aug 20, 1924 in Atlantic, MA to the late George and Stella Linegar-Maher, she married the love of her life, Chester Southworth, on Sept 26, 1948 in Bridgewater, MA.
Florance loved the nomadic life of a military spouse and was active in the Retired Sargent’s Major Wives Club. She and Chester, a WWII Veteran, were founding members of the 1874th Engr Avn Bn Assn. She was an avid cruiser and loved creating family memories at sea. Carnival Cruise Line's stock will surely suffer with her passing. You could find her many days of the week “toodling” in the local Goodwill stores where she was a well-loved celebrity. She enjoyed a long career as a civil servant and retired in 1989.
She is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Chester, and three brothers George Jr, Alan, and Frank Maher. She is survived by her children, Chester Jr “Chet” and wife Barbara of Killeen, Mary Provost and husband Michael of Stafford, VA, and Catherine “Kitty” Martin and husband Patrick of Killeen; grandchildren Jill, Chester III, Donnie, Chris, Cathy, Cindy, Holly, Tina, Jacob, Jenna, Hannah, and Patrick Jr.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on Thursday 3 Aug from 6 to 8 pm with Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights on Fri 4 Aug at 11 am with interment at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 1PM. Reception will follow at St. Paul’s.
