Harold Arthur Tyre, aged 88, passed away peacefully in his home in Killeen Texas on Christmas day (December 25th) 2025, after a long battle with multiple health issues. Born to mother Edith Tyre and father Charles Tyre on December 5th, 1937.
Harold was raised on a humble family farm and joined the army at a young age. He quickly flew up in the ranks, gaining Sargent Major status quickly. He accredited his military service to many of his great achievements, such as meeting his wife in Japan, being one of the first Americans to set foot in Ethiopia, and mastering karate and judo.
Harold’s wife, Fumiko, was his favorite part of his travels, as they stopped in many places around the world during his years of service. Africa, Turkey, Korea, and Japan were just a few of the many countries they visited before they were able to settle down in the United States, buying a house in Killeen to retire in. Once Harold finally slowed down, he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Tyre (12-31-36 to 10-29-10), His brother Charles w. Tyre (6-8-23 to 4-9-09) as well as his wife Fumiko Yanagino Tyre (8-25-1932 to 10-14-2021). Harold is survived by his sister Carol, son John, as well as his granddaughter.
Harold will be remembered for his tenacity, strength, and courage, as well as his kindness and love of socializing. The folks of his neighborhood will never forget his long walks around the block, or how he always made time to stop and chat.
