

In May of 1950, he moved to East Los Angeles, California when his father was asked to be a Zen Buddhist missionary in the United States. Soon after, he moved to Long Beach, California where he attended Garfield Elementary School, Stephens Junior High School and Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
Hideya was an active youth. He played on two championship little league baseball teams, the Little Atoms, which was an all Japanese American team and the Little Yankees. He medaled and set local records in the shot put event in track and field. He participated in numerous Judo tournaments and was a Judoka black belt. He also enjoyed and excelled at billiards, racquetball and golf.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force while enrolled at California State University, Long Beach. He met Ignacia while stationed in Tinian, CNMI and they were married on February 17, 1973 in Saipan, CNMI. While stationed at Andersen AFB, Guam, he retired on July 31, 1997 as a Chief Master Sergeant after 30 years active service with two combat tours to Vietnam. Their three children are Manuel, Michael and Michiko. After his career in the United States Air Force, Hideya served as a Customs and Border Patrol Officer, Entomologist, Security guard and Golf instructor.
He and Ignacia moved to Nolanville, Texas in August of 2020 where they lived until his death. He passed away on September 8, 2024 at the age of 78.
He is preceded in death by his father Kosai Osada, mother Mieko Osada, sister Mariko Kobata, brothers and sisters in-law Wayne “J” Kobata and Glenn Yomogida. Manuel Lizama, Maria and Ramon Kaipat, Mercedes and Juan Aguon, Jesus Lizama, Joaquin and Monica Lizama, Carmen and Jose Torres, Benedicto and Linsa Lizama, Ramon Lizama, Teresita and Jesus Tyquiengco and Pedro Lizama.
He is survived by his wife Ignacia Osada, their children Manuel Osada, Michael and Chloe Osada and Michiko and Vicente Gumataotao II, their grandchildren Nathaniel Osada, Jioni and Brandon Vaitautolu, Tiana-Mae Osada, Ethan Osada, Evangeline Osada, Vicente Gumataotao III, Mieko Gumataotao and Leon Gumataotao; their great grandchildren Caden-Gus, Cali-Mae, Urijah, Shiloh, Surina and Leia and his sister Atsuko Yomogida, her children Darren Yomogida and Dr. Christopher and Liane Redgate and her grandchild Jack Redgate; his siblings in-laws Maria Lizama, Virginia Lizama, Dionicio and Pat Camacho. Also survived by many other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home September 14th starting at 1:00 pm. His memorial will be held on September 19th at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas at 11:00 am. Immediately following will be his funeral and military honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
