

Jim was born January 22, 1929 to W. C. and Mattie Caldonia Sims in Jean, Texas. He married Rosa Jean Bramlet Sims on November 2, 1951. His daughters – the “Sims girls” – soon followed: Cecilia, Jennye, Elizabeth, Cynthia & Tammy.
Jim joined the Air Force in 1948. He served 4 years before attending and receiving his BBA in 1954 from North Texas State University. He began his work at KISD before managing Craig’s General Store and Record Shop in downtown Killeen from 1956 until 1969. He moved to become sales manager at KTON Radio. Jim found his way back to education as the principal for the Good Shepherd Christian School before accepting the general manager’s position at KTON Radio. He ended his career as an account executive with KXXV Channel 25 since 1984.
He served his community in numerous positions – most notably as the President of the United Way, President of the Exchange Club, Vice President of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the C.E. Clements Boys Club, Committee Chairman of the AUSA Scholarship Committee, Secretary-Treasurer of District IV Christian Men Fellowship, Treasurer of Texas District Exchange Clubs, Chairman – Ambassador’s Club for the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Gideon Camp in Killeen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill.
Jim is survived by his wife Rosa Jean Bramlet Sims, his brother Ernest Sims and his wife, Leveta of Mineral Wells, the “Sims girls” and their families: CC and Steve Coffino, Jennye Beronio, Liz and John Cruddas, Cynthia & Mark Mangum, Tammy & Raymond Resch. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, September 3rd at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S. Fort Hood St. Killeen. Graveside services will be private.
