Ms. Brown was affectionately known as JB, Mama J, Great Gramy J and Mother to so many over the years. JB was a pioneer, trendsetter, and true patriot. She was a mentor, friend, confidant and mother figure to so many. Her love and kindness was infused in everything she did. She was a woman of grace and courage, with a stubborn streak that showed up when she set her mind to something. She had such an infectious personality that anyone who met her instantly fell in love with her.
JB was born in 1948 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the second of three children. She left home when she was 18 years old and joined the United States Marines. In 1967, she was pregnant with her first child Bryan and then had her second child Michael the following year. Bryan and Michael were both born with type A Hemophilia. After leaving the Marines, she returned to Michigan and became the first female dye maker apprentice in the U.S. at General Motors. JB left General motors and relocated in Lake Havasu City, Arizona because the climate was better for Bryan and Michael. In 1979, JB relocated to Fort Hood/Killeen, Texas. In 1990, JB converted her home into a triplex to take care of Bryan, Michael and their women and children. After the passing of her only two sons, she started renting rooms to Soldiers and all. She always said that she was blessed and that renting rooms was her way of honoring Bryan and Michael and carrying out God’s mission to help others through her work as an online patriot for the last decade.
JB believed that family always came first and always placed the needs others first. Mother would always say that she loved everyone and would put the needs of everyone before her own needs. The ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus said, "There is only one way to happiness, and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will and control." JB always said that she had surrendered to her creator years ago and that everything is in the hands and control of the “Great Spirit.” Nothing could be further from the truth as she battled and defeated Cancer. Her wisdom and guidance can never be replaced. She would always say “I can’t tell you what to do, but only what I would do...that I’m not smarter than you, just older.” JB would also remind us all to “laugh, love and trust God no matter what.”
She is survived by son Timothy Barganier (Mr. T), granddaughters Tiffany (Bryan’s daughter), Elizabeth (Michael’s daughter) and grandson Michael Jr. (Michael’s son). She would also tell us not to cry or be sad because she is in a glorious place and one day we will be too.
A visitation for JB will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S Fort Hood St, Killeen, Texas 76542, followed by military honors at 4:00 PM.
