

John was born August 3, 1940 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Hubert C. Schall and Mary (Wagner) Schall.
He served in the United States Army with honor until his retirement May 31, 2002. While serving he received a Purple Heart; the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Aircraft Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal (3d Oak leaf Cluster),the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award) , the Overseas Service Bar (6), the Army Commendation Medal, the Senior Aviator Badge, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 2, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Expert (Rifle), the Aircraft Crewmember Badge. SSG (Ret.) John L. Schall was very proud of his service to our Country and enjoyed sharing the stories of his tours in Vietnam.
He also retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and later worked for HEB in Killeen for a short time.
He also enjoyed gardening, yard work and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. John was also a member of the American Rifle Association as well as the National Rifle Association.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a step son, Phil Rainbolt.
He is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Hulona Millsaps Schall; a daughter, Jo Ann L. Cantrell and her husband Brent; his two brothers, Herbert Paul Schall and Ronald C. Schall; a sister, Inis Gilman; step-children, Tana Bunnell and her husband Charles, Dick Rainbolt, Patricia Barth and her husband Steve, Jim Millsaps, Sue Butler and Ricky Millsaps; grandchildren, Malea Hartley, Cody Hall and Collin, Amanda Cochrane and Brad Hobbs, Ty Butler and Kristin, Trevor Butler and Leeann; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Schall family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Interment services will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
