Julie lived across the street from me and was my first friend in Killeen. She gave me rides to school and filled me in on all the gossip and let me know the hierarchy of the KHS.  On the morning of the NHS initiation when I was ready to be tapped, new dress and all, she let me down so sweetly and compassionately ahead of time so that I wouldn't be caught unawares when names were called.  I still remember that kindness.
  Most of all I remember how witty she was. She will be one that I remember until I leave this earth--KHS years all so vivid and the ones that meant the most still live large in my mind and my heart.  Gail Galloway Adams

I loved seeing these pictures because they reminded me of how much  fun Julie could be.  And generous.  When I first moved to Killeen she was one of the first to reach out and offer her friendship and bring me into the circle of friends that she'd made over the years.  Witty, smart and kind, she is one of a handful of people in the KHS class of  1961 that I hold firm in my memory.  Rest in peace and I'll always remember your beautiful condolence card after Tim's death when you simply advised me to "Breathe."

I had the pleasure to help care for Julia til her last days.  While providing care for Julia these last couple of years she added great wisdom to my daily walk. I will miss her. “Heaven truly gained an Angel🕊”

Julie Mellor changed my life!  She was my counselor mentor, practicum supervisor, a dear friend, and one of the few people who can make me laugh.  And boy did we laugh!  Sometimes I would lay down to sleep next to my husband, remember something she said, and it was all I could do to avoid bursting out laughing again.  I have so many wonderful, fond memories of her as we shared 6 years as co-counselors at Meadows ES.  I am the counselor I am today because of her.  We shared many personal moments as well, even after her retirement.  While I will miss her, I will hold her in my heart forever and I am so joyful and grateful to have had her in my life. Our meeting was a definitely GOD thing!

Julie was my mentor when I first became a counselor. I always strived to be the counselor she was. She loved her Meadows kids!!!  You will be missed!  Love and hugs to Cherry and the rest of the family

Ms. Mellor was such an amazing lady.  She listened without judgement and gave some of the best advice ever.  I can still hear her laugh and see her amazing smile.  She was an amazing person who loved life and made a huge difference in the lives of so many.  Her legacy will live on for a very long time.  

May the peace of God be with you all during this most difficult time. 

My first recollections of Julie were from grade school. I remember that she had a storage chest filled to the brim with the most incredible collection of dress-up clothes, purses, hats, etc. I was more than impressed and thought those dresses must had been on par with those in the fashion houses of Paris. I further recall her sweet mother Elva's visit soon after we purchased the Forsythe home in '69 on Llewellyn Lane. Such fun.  Rest in Peace dear Julie. 

Though I knew Julie in high school, it was mostly as Cherry's older sister. It's only been in the last few years that I have had the privilege of coming to know her well and to admire her humor, dignity, intelligence and love of family, friends, and humanity, as well as her fierce fight for independence and life. I’ve known Julie since our days at Killeen High School. Later, I was privileged to visit in her classrooms and see what an incredible teacher she was. She touched the lives of many children and colleagues. She was funny, wise, and beautiful. I will miss her greatly. 
My sincere condolences to her entire family. 

Julie was a member of what we call our Meadows Family. She was a very caring person. I remember looking at her Elvis picture and being amazed. I am an Elvis fan. I loved how Julie made her own path with her  zany hair and rings. She was always kind. I will miss her smile and hugs. 

Julia , was a counselor at Meadows Elementary in Killeen when I met her . Her wisdom and friendship I will  always cherish .

One of the first people I met when moving to Killeen from Berlin, was Julie Forsythe. The Forsythe household was full of kids and laughter and fun.  I remember Cherry and Sam and Steve as the younger sibs that teenage Julie was both proud of and wanting to avoid.  She was the person who drove me daily to KHS and we shared confidences and quiet dreams and hopes. She was smart and funny and compassionate and spared me from hurt and soothed my adolescent feelings--those like no other in our lives. She was also wry and could find humor in anything. I remember visiting her at a summer job at a dry cleaners and how she ducked under the hanging racks of shirts.  My time with Julie and my memories are limited to those brief years, but I came to learn later of her  remarkable bravery in her life; the courage with which she faced her own pain physical and emotional was so admirable. At a time of great loss for me, Julie sent a card and written just this phrase:  Breathe.  Lanky and zany with a charming overbite and a great sense  of style, Julie remains vividly alive for me. I’m glad I got the chance to work with Julie at Meadows Elementary. She was definitely a truth teller and was always full of life and laughter. My sincerest condolences for God’s strength and peace. 

Julie brought a ray of sunshine whenever she entered a room. She was so easy to talk to and was always willing to listen. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her at Meadows Elementary. She will be missed. She left a huge mark on the world and in the lives of so many children! Prayers for all of her family!

Oh what stories I could tell about sweet Julie. We shared many memories of our high school days, being neighbors, our children playing together and just living life. She has left a hole in my heart and I will miss her.  God grant the Peace that passes all understanding to her family. Thank you, Katy, for all your caring and concern for her. My love to all of you.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of my dear sweet friend,  Julie.  I have held wonderful memories of our high school days together forever in the pockets of my heart.
