

Services for Leamon Owens, 78, of Killeen will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation 11:00 a.m. to noon, prior to the service. Elder Richard Lewis of Unity Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Leamon Owens was born to the late Bennie Joe and Lula Bell in Georgiana, Alabama. He attended high school in Pensacola, Florida, was drafted into the United States Army where he served 30 years, and retired as a Sergeant Major. He continued serving his country as a civil servant. He retired after 10 years to enjoy his family, daughters, grand-daughters, and last but worth the wait, his three great grandsons. Both parents and three siblings preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife Deloris of 57 years, 2 daughters – Cheryl Turner of Killeen, TX and Sylvia Purcell of Austin, TX; two granddaughters - Doricia Owens and Kenisha Purcell of Austin, and the arrival of his 3 great grandsons – Xavier, Anthony, and Isaac; five sisters – Annie M. Miles, Alice Johnson, Essie Baldwin, Ethel Davis and Rose Carter; two brothers – Wilton (Brunetta) and Alvin (Willa) all of Pensacola, Florida; sisters-in-law Mabel Owens of Detroit, Michigan, Betty Owens of Pensacola, Florida, Ida Wallace and Lillian Campbell of Florida; brother-in-law Edward (Iris) Jackson of California; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
