Margaret E. Schafer

Mrs. Schafer died Jan. 16, 2011, in a San Antonio hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1916, in Bathgate, N.D., to William James and Alice Metcalf Bill.

Mrs. Schafer was reared and educated in North Dakota. She married Marquis S. Schafer on Oct. 18, 1936, in North Dakota and they had lived in this area since 1969, coming from Cavalier, N.D.

She was a member of the NCO Wives Club; a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club; Widows and Widowers Club; Forty to Eight Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary Club No. 222 of Killeen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers; three sisters; and her husband, Marquis in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, retired Col. Thomas Schafer of San Antonio and retired Sgt. Kenneth Schafer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Leslie Kellerman of Mesquite, and Mary Ann Deason of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
