

Phillip Rodney Ching age 79, of Killeen, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2023. He was born and raised in Kohala, Hawaii. Once reaching the age of 18, he was drafted into the National Guard and begin his journey to reach his aspirations and goals he set for himself. He was a proud Hawaiian and love serving his country, thus he switched to Active Duty U.S. Army. He served multiple duty stations stateside and overseas (Vietnam, Germany, and South Korea). He completed his Army career and retired at Ft. Hood (Ft. Cavazos) after serving a total of thirty years in the United States Army. Loving and caring for his family was number one in his life and it always kept him motivated to strive for more. After a successful career in the Army, he became a truck driver. As a truck driver, he worked for Transit Mix and Smith & Smith locally. After a few years at the aforementioned companies, he then start driving regionally for Werner in which he had a tenure of ten years, 5 of those years being a Driving Instructor.
He was a caring person who also loved to teach people new things. Phil’s hobbies included loading up his boat to take his family fishing, and traveling with his friends and teammates to tournaments to golf, bowl, and shoot pool.
Phil was previously married to Sharon Akamu and from that union they had two sons, Rodney and Shane (Kansas City, MO.). He also has daughter, Sienna (Missoula, MT.). Phil married Jewel and they had two daughters, Celeste and Crystal. Phil was a great husband and father and loved everyone from the bottom of his heart.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 35 years, Jewel; Daughters, Celeste, Crystal, and Sienna; Sons, Rodney and Shane; Grandchildren, Lauren Jordan (St. Louis, MO), Phillip Ching (Palmsprings, CA), Kayla Dunn (Hobart, IN), Dwayne Wade (Killeen, TX), Devonte Wade (Killeen, TX), Darrelle Wade (Killeen, TX), a 4th Wade who is not born yet and being carried by his Mom, Celeste and
one Great Grandson, Kayden Birmingham (St. Louis, MO).
He was preceded in death by his Father, Philip Jay Pilipi.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. A Committal Service will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00Pm with Full Military Honors.
