Miss Reva Etta Johnson was the fourth child born to the union of Jimmy and Mabel Johnson on October 17, 1925, in the Elm Slough Community in the county of Gonzales, Texas. Being the product of Christian parents, Miss Reva enjoyed a rich family heritage undergirded by values exhibited in her adult life. Miss Reva attended school in Gonzales, Texas completing her High School education in 1943 from George Edwards High School.
Miss Reva was content with only a High School diploma. However, her parents wanted her to pursue a higher education. She and her mother boarded a bus in route to San Antonio for her to attend St. Philips College. In the fall of 1943 she received an Associate of Arts degree signed by Mrs. Artemesia Bowden, the Founding President of the school, in 1945. In thirst for higher learning, Miss Reva graduated from Sam Houston College, now called Huston Tillotson University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1947.
Her passion for education led her to receive her Master of Education Degree from Prairie View A&M. Miss Reva loved community service. On November 24, 1968, she began her life-long commitment to public service in the La Marque Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
After moving to Killeen, she transferred her membership to the Killeen Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She continued to enjoy the love of sisterhood within the Chapter under the presidency of Shawanda Blackman.
In Miss Reva’s early 90’s, she became a life member of The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Due to her bond with Mrs. Mary Mcloed Bethune, upon receiving her certificate, she openly stated “I will forever treasure this certificate. Thank you.”
