Ruby Williams Miller

Funeral services for Ruby Miller, 95, of Killeen, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen with burial to follow at Killeen City Cemetery. Mrs. Miller died Nov. 19, 2011 in Lampasas.

She was born, Ruby Jewel Williams Sept. 14, 1916 in Maxdale to Joseph S. and Annie Brown Williams.

She married Sam R. Miller Nov. 17, 1933 in Nolanville. They were married 53 years at the time of his death.

Mrs. Miller was reared in Killeen and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She was a beautician for more than 25 years in Lampasas, Lometa and West Texas. After she and Sam returned to Killeen, Mrs. Miller was active in the Senior Citizens, participating in exercise and dance groups. One of her proudest moments was when she went to Russia and tap danced with the Granny Dancers group from the Bob Gilmore Seniors Center. She loved to travel and went with the seniors and other groups as much as possible.

Mrs. Miller was totally independent and driving until she had a stroke at age 92. She recovered and was still living in her home at age 94. Her mind and memory were as remarkable as her youthful appearance and personality.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband Sam, her parents, a daughter Murlyne West, five brothers: Elmer, Marvin, Melvin and D.L. Williams and Edwin Baker, two sisters: Zelma Chandler and Joetta Dunn,great granddaughter: Heather Crawford, two step-mothers: Henrietta Baker Williams and NoraBelle Williams.

Survivors include her daughter Sandra Cloud and husband Scott, son-in-law Wayne West and wife Bobbie, grandchildren: Ricky West, Dustin West, Cheryl Grounds, Vonessa Barker, Kim Truelove, and Misti Harrell, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, one sister Zonanna Curry and one brother Earl Baker.Pallbearers will be Mrs. Miller’s great grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of one’s choice.

Visitation is at 3 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen.Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
