
Mr. Carney was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Dallas to Sam Sr. and Ruby Carney. He attended high school in Cleburne, where he met his first wife, Patricia Kemp Carney. They were married 38 years. They both were charter members of Trinity Baptist Church of Killeen.
He was a Korean War veteran in 1953-1954 and graduated from North Texas State University in 1957. He started coaching in Odessa then moved to Killeen in 1964 where he taught school and coached for 32 years. He was a master mason 32nd Scottish Rite Mason and 16 York Rite. He was passionate about hunting, fishing and life.
Mr. Carney was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry Carney and Johnny Carney; and his wife, Patricia.
Survivors include his current wife, Sandra Blake Carney; three children, son, Rick Carney and his wife, Tracy, and daughters, Renea Gilmore Carney and Nikki Carney McDaniel and her husband, Richard; two stepchildren, son, Joe Zizzo, and daughter, Jackie Hutchison; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Patrick Carney, John and Randy Gilmore, Jake and Leigha Gilmore, Chance Wilson and Chani, Gabi and Mathew Reyes; one great-grandchild, Dylan Gilmore and one great-grandchild on the way; and two step-grandchildren, Shelby Zizzo and Laura Hutchison.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
