

SMSGT Samuel M. Hickman (retired) died September 20, 2013 in Killeen. He was born March 29, 1923 in Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 10:30 AM in Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
Sam was in the Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force. He served in WWII, with the unit that supported Normandy, and the Korean War. He was also in Viet Nam and was under direct attack during the Tet Offensive. Additionally, he served in two occupational forces in Germany and Japan. He loved serving his country and was especially proud of earning Senior Master Sergeant.
When he retired from the Air Force he joined the Social Security Administration as a SSI counselor. He loved the job so much that he worked until the age of 79. He loved helping people and giving them needed assistance.
He loved playing Golf held a 1 handy cap most of his golfing career, was in the “Hole in One Club” and earned 2nd place in the Strategic Air Command’s tournament.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mart Lee Hickman and eight siblings.
Survivors include sons, Terry and Vann and a daughter, Pam Talamentez, one sister, his grand children and great grand children.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
Honorary Pallbearers are his Grandsons: Stephen Riley, Jeff Hickman, Eric Talamentez, Josh Talamentez, Stanley Steed, and his Great Grandsons: Logan Steed and Tyler Steed.
