Sherry Anne (Suhrbier) Skinner-Evens, born June 8, 1949, in West Union, Iowa, left this world guided by angels peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Harker Heights, Texas, at the age of 76.
Sherry was the second child of Carl and Amy (Tope) Suhrbier, who passed on to her the virtues and morals she lived by, as well as much influence from her grandparents, Sidney “Burt” and Anna (Johnston) Tope. Her mother, Amy, was a single-room schoolhouse teacher and ensured she was well educated and had exposure to the arts, crafts, nature and trades, as well as an understanding of other cultures and history, including stops at national monuments and Native American reservations on their trips to visit family in California. She attended Holy Name Catholic School in West Union, Iowa, Briar Cliff University, and Capri College of Cosmetology. She studied art and cosmetology in Iowa and Paris, France. She enjoyed art, music and was a follower of Christ at St. Andrews Catholic Church.
Sherry worked tirelessly her entire life to help others to the best of her ability, from raising her children, to assisting her Aunt in her final years. The definition of a giver, she always wanted to offer of herself to those she loved and cared about. She spent many years of her life moving around the country to help her family, especially her children. Greeting cards meant the world to her, both giving and receiving, the more artistic they were, the better, especially if they were her favorite color, purple. She loved music and could read music and play multiple instruments, favoring the piano, as well as sing. Her paintings are treasured reminders of her artistic qualities, and are undoubtedly significant sentimental pieces of her that will be treasured by her family. Her sharp wit and humor was hard to match, and she enjoyed many forms of games, especially those that brought the family and friends together, including cards, dominoes, and especially Rumikub late in life. Sherry was all about FAITH, FAMILY, GIVING and LOVE.
She was married and divorced twice: First to Marion Levi “Skip” Skinner, and later to Ronald Aaron Evens, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her parents, Carl and Amy (Tope) Suhrbier, three children (Troy Alan Skinner, Jason Evens, and Danny Evens), and a stepson, Timothy Evens.
She is survived by her elder sister, Carla Patricia Condon & five children, Shannon Rae Jeffrey, Tamara Sue Skinner, Carlton Shayne Skinner, Aaron James Evens, and Troy Patrick Evens; and stepdaughters Mia and Ronmona Evens.
Her grandchildren include Brittianie Canet, Kyler Maeding, Brandon Jeffrey, Kaleb Jeffrey, Devon Jones, Audriuna Jones, Makenzie Skinner, Grace Skinner, Colby Skinner, Sabrina Beam-Skinner, Bridgett Evens, Dixie Evens, Charlotte Evens, and Makayla Hyatt.
Her great-grandchildren are Juliana Canet, Angel Canet, Karlie Maeding, Kingston Maeding, William Monaghan, Greyson Monaghan, and Karsun Jeffrey. She also had one great-great granddaughter, Alayah Canet, and countless other nieces, nephews and more.
The passing of her light from this earth will make the afterlife shine as it never has before.
