20 May 1957 – 13 July 2013
Stephen (Steve) was born in Pittsburg, PA but he became a Texan quickly at the age of 6. He was the third of four kids and the second son. His father, Mr. Paul Edwin Weicht, a brother, Craig Joseph Weicht, as well as a niece, Karen Renee, have already gone on to heaven. Steve’s mother, Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Weicht, is currently on a pilgrimage in Jerusalem walking the steps that Jesus walked as now Steve is walking with Him.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and was commissioned into the US Army in December 1980 as a 2nd Lieutenant. After serving in Desert Strom, in 1992 Steve took an early out and completed his Military career in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Major. That same year he was hired with KISD as one of the first Campus Techs.
Technology was a great joy for Steve. There was never a day without technology in Steve’s life, up to the week he passed away. He knew every tidbit of news from Apple. Nightly, he would sit and listen to all the pod casts.
Acting at Viva Le Arts, was also another joy. He was in many plays to include: The Music Man, Murder Mystery Musical, and Joseph and His Techno Colored Dream Coat.
Steve became interested in Magic after reading a book in his elementary school library. This began a lifelong passion. He loved entertaining others and he was also involved in leading a Christian clowning group at church, with his clown name of “Barnie”.
Steve leaves to cherish his many memories his wife of 36 years Deborah, Debbie, Todd-Brown Weicht; a son, Timothy Michael Weicht and a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth, Meg, Weicht Bowes. Steve is also survived by his two sisters, Linda Weicht Swanzy, and Teresa Weicht Copeland.
But by far, Steve, “Grandpappy or NaNa”, will be missed by his only grandson, Jaden Patrick Bowes. Steve’s last purchase was a card trick that he was working on to add to a magic show he was preparing for Jaden. It was Grandpappy’s hope that Jaden would inherit a love for magic also.
Please join us as we celebrate the life of our beloved Steve in a memorial service held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Interment will be held at 3:00 PM in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
