Wallace (Wally) Edward Toutant, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Killeen, Texas. He was born July 25, 1943, in Roseville, Michigan, to Oscar and Jelima Toutant. He moved with his family to West Branch, Michigan, where he attended West Branch High School and studied girls and football.
Wally was known for his humor, generosity, and deep love of country. At 17, he joined the U. S. Army, turning a passion for mechanics—learned from his older brother Bob—into a career. During his 20-year Army career, he served a tour in Vietnam and was stationed throughout the United States as well as twice in Korea and Germany. He retired in 1981 with the rank of Sergeant First Class and later worked as a mechanic for a government contractor.
Wally’s entrepreneurial spirit began at his parents’ business, Toutant’s General Store. He later enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales, which he turned into a side business selling regularly at a local Flea Market.
While selling at the Flea Market, Wally befriended a fellow vendor, Bob, who also happened to be a locksmith, who taught him the trade. He later worked for Pete Trevino at Belton Lockshop, where he continued developing his skills and a lasting friendship. Wally remained active as a locksmith for the rest of his life because he loved the work and was a people person who never met a stranger.
Wally enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino, bowling in his younger years, and classic country and folk music. Up until the time of his passing, he cherished dinner dates with his wife while enjoying his favorite performers Jay and Tammy. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
He is survived by his wife, Donna; son Paul Toutant; daughters Karen Beers and Heidi Saeun; sister, Elizabeth Guy; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Jelima Toutant; his brother, Bob Toutant; his sisters Kathleen Toutant and Lorraine Illig; and his daughter, Kathleen Brace.
Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2026, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, TX. Visitation begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00pm, with a reception afterward at St. Christopher’s Church Parish Hall, 2800 Trimmier Rd, Killeen.
To honor Wally’s love of cats, we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SNIP & TIP Animal Rescue at https://www.snipandtip.org/donate.
