Dr. William Edward Polchinski, age 57, passed away from a heroic battle with cancer on Friday, November 7, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born April 29th, 1957, in Bad Kreuznach, Germany to Elisabeth Polchinski and Arthur Polchinski, Sr.
William loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved traveling with his wife, Sherry, and children, Christina, Ryan and Andrew as well as with his parents and siblings while his father served in the military. He thought it was wonderful to live the life of a military brat. He met the love of his life, his wife Sherry, 39 years ago when they began dating just prior to graduation from Killeen High School in 1975. He loved to play golf, fish, cycle and play in poker tournaments. He was an avid reader. He loved playing chess with his granddaughter, Brianna, and listening to his granddaughter, Alexis, sing. He loved working as a doctor of chiropractic at his part time practice in Killeen as well as on Fort Hood as the civilian director of the chiropractic clinic. Caring for his soldiers in pain was a passion for him and he was never too tired or had too little time to treat his soldiers. He was the recipient of a Golden Apple Award for outstanding patient care at the CR Darnall Army Medical Center Chiropractic Clinic as well as numerous medals.
William loved helping others. He was a Confirmation teacher for religious education at St. Pauls. He served as a past board member and later, Honorary Board Member on the CR Clements Boys & Girls Club. He served on the Site Based Decision Making Board for numerous public schools and served on the school board and as vice president of St. Joseph Elementary School. He served as president of the Harker Heights High School Athletic Boosters Club. He was a past member of the Killeen Kiwanis Club, the Copperas Cove Exchange Club, the Killeen Chamber of Commerce, AUSA for Ft. Hood, Texas. He was a fourth-knight in the Knights of Columbus .
William leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Sherry ; his youngest son, Andrew; a daughter, Christina Marr-Adams and her husband Nathan, and his granddaughters Alexis and Brianna Marr; his oldest son, Ryan Polchinski and his wife Lauren, and their baby due in April, Harrison William; his mother, Elisabeth Polchinski; two brothers, Arthur Polchinski, Jr. and Joseph Polchinski; five sisters, Rosie Ross, Mary Hegedusich, Helen Guzman, Dorothy Polchinski, and Teresa Gorres and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that he was blessed with. He will be greatly missed and always loved.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church. Funeral services will be on on Wednesday November 12 with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights.
