David Bynum Walling was born October 2, 1969 to Ted and Toni Walling. He grew up in Westlake, LA on Ann Street. He spent many days swimming and playing in the pond behind his house. He rode his bike all over Westlake and had lots of stories to tell about his adventures. He graduated from Westlake High School. He played trombone in the Pride of McNeese marching band. David graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in business.
David had 3 brothers and one sister. His brothers are Curtis Walling and wife Jenny, Ted Walling and wife Charlee, and Paul Walling. His sister is Darla Moreno and husband Ed. Lots of nephews and a few nieces. He had fond memories of going out on the boat on Sunday afternoons and many summer trips to Oklahoma.
David married Sheri McFatter in 1993. They were married for 28 years last January. David had an amazing sense of adventure and always wanted to learn new things. They spent many anniversaries exploring new places and traveling when possible. It was important to him that they spend time together as a couple on a consistent basis. They eventually settled down in Kingwood, TX and have lived there for 20 years.
The blessings of their marriage include six wonderful children. Zane, Kaylee, Trent, Mia, Ty, and Johanna. David’s role as a father was his number one priority. He spent countless hours volunteering in all their various events. He was a scout leader, swim team timer, band dad, gymnastics fan, Upward soccer coach, dance fan, and FFA helper just to name some. If his kids were involved he was there to participate. But more important than showing up at events was that he was present in their lives on a daily basis. He loved his family immensely. His primary goal in raising his children was to know and love God.
David had many different jobs and occupations throughout his life that gave him great perspective. In his early life he had been a Bank teller, Math Teacher and PE Coach at Merryville High School, Truck Driver, Pizza Delivery Driver, firework tent manager…just to name a few. As he began his professional phase in life he realized his greatest passion was to help teachers educate young minds and delight in learning. So for the last 17 years he has owned and operated Smartschool Systems where he supports teachers all over the United States.
David came to know Jesus at Westwood Baptist Church in Westlake. He then was a member for many years with Sheri at First Baptist Westlake. Since then David has been a member of United City Church for 20 years. He has served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Small group leader, youth camp counselor, mentor and many other things. He was happiest when he was serving others. It didn’t matter how close or how far he went. He could be found mudding out houses after Hurricane Harvey for days on end. He might also be in Honduras serving on a medical mission team or just down the street helping someone do yard work. David’s life goal was for others to know Jesus Christ through him by loving, encouraging, and reaching out to others.
David’s quick wit and playful banter let you know he really cared about you. He loved to laugh and always worked to make others smile. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend.
