Dixie was a devoted mother to her children, Kerry Wilson and Lisa Mitcham, and a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren – with two more on the way. She was the very embodiment of a family matriarch, working tirelessly throughout her life to ensure the well-being of those she loved.
Despite facing tremendous challenges in childhood, Dixie and her sister Bobbie Jean raised themselves as teenagers and both graduated high school independently, while their older brother, Barham, was proudly serving in the military.
Throughout those decades, and after her divorce, Dixie raised her two children largely as a single mother while working full-time, maintaining a caring relationship with her in-laws, and later helping her daughter Lisa raise her own children. Even after retirement, she remained the backbone of her family – ensuring that all members had their needs met and, most of all, felt loved.
She found joy simply in spending time with her family, exploring her ancestry, trading novels with her sister, enjoying the fruits (and veggies!) of her brother’s labor (thanks to his green thumb), taking her children and grandchildren on trips across the country while joyfully scrapbooking their adventures. Her unwavering Christian faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her with incredible strength and grace. She shared countless hugs, stories, and laughs, leaving an enduring mark on everyone around her.
Dixie is survived by her children, Morris Kerry (Teresa) Wilson and Lisa Mitcham, her grandchildren, Sheree (Carlos) Mayorquin, Monica (Prisiliano) Salas, Tabitha Wilson, Delton (Sharadan) Wilson, Cody Mitcham, Zachary Mitcham, Colton Wilson, and Rachel Wilson, her sister Bobbie Jean Stewart, her fourteen great-grandchildren (soon to be sixteen), and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Almarene King Miller and Barham Harvey Miller, her brother Barham Howard Miller, her sister-in-law Annie Miller, her brother-in-law Jerry Stewart, and her nephews Gerald Miller and Terrell Miller.
Dixie’s life was a powerful testimony to faith, perseverance, determination, and above all love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with her maker.
