

Don is survived by his wife, Marlene (Fridley) Engelage; his five children, Brian Engelage, Brent Engelage, Craig Engelage, Dean Engelage and Jeannie Fahlquist; nine grandchildren, Brianna, Blake, Paige, Anna, Adam, Emma, Sydney, Landon and Liliana; three daughters-in-law, Roseann, Lena and Heidi; two nieces, Beth (Engelage) Huffman and husband Bryan and Jenny Engelage.
Don was preceded in death by his only brother, Dennis and his parents, Landon and Marguerite Engelage.
Don was a graduate of Augusta High School in Augusta, Missouri. He received his BA from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He graduated from the ROTC program at the university as a 1st Lieutenant, in the Air Force. He received a Masters in Counseling degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. After twenty years, Don retired from the US Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then worked twenty years at Texas A&M University as Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships. He was also a member of the Greater East Texas Foundation.
The true joy of Don’s life was his family. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren knew no bounds. He cherished each moment and left his children with a great example of devotion to family.
The family will visit with friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. A committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038. A celebration of Don’s life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Brookdale of Kingwood, 929 Rockmead Dr., Kingwood, TX 77339.
The family has asked that donations, in lieu of flowers, in remembrance of Don’s life be sent to the Silverado Holiday Fund Kingwood (a fund for the caregivers at Silverado) 22955 Eastex Freeway, Kingwood, TX 77339 or the Fisher House Foundation (meeting the needs of our nation’s service members) at www.fisherhouse.org.
