Don was retired after 29 years of service from the University of St. Thomas as Professor of Modern Languages and Dean of Studies. His love for the University never faltered and he kept in touch with former students for years, many of whom came back to visit and to thank him. Don was Foreign Student Advisor and counseled students from their undergraduate years through graduation.
Don’s spiritual journey began when he studied with the Basilians in Toronto, but he chose to be a lay professor and to be a wonderful husband and father to seven children. He continued his journey always devoted to the Mass and the Eucharist, and spreading his faith along the way.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Margaret Hoesel Hogan; and was pre-deceased by son Patrick William and grandson, Gabriel Joseph Hogan. Survivors include sister, Katherine Ruth Peartree; daughter, Margaret Keller (Glenn); son Stephen Hogan (Diane); daughter, Katherine Moore; daughter, Teresa Piraino (Anthony); son, Richard Hogan (Julie); son, John Hogan (Darlene); grandchildren, John Mark and David Keller, William Hogan, Michelle Hogan Dominguez (Julio and son, Emiliano), Jason, Katie and Michael Moore; great grandson, Marcus Moore, Christy, Lisa, and Joey Piraino, Jessica, Andrew, Hannah, and Emma Hogan, Lillian and Bryce Hogan.
