Fran completed her high school education in Detroit, graduating from Saint Casimir High School in 1958, and went on to pursue nursing school there soon after. It was there, while working in various doctors’ offices and hospitals, that she met the love of her life, Kenneth Norman MacLeod. Ken and Fran built a life together in Detroit before moving to Texas in 1974, a place Fran would proudly call home for the rest of her life.
After settling in Spring Texas, Fran continued her calling in healthcare by earning her Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) degree from North Harris County Community College. She served her community with dedication and kindness, working for Dr. Woehst, Dr. Halberdier, Dr. Mardaga, and finally retiring in 2006 from Dr. Richards’ office in Kingwood, Texas. Her patients and colleagues alike knew her for her gentle care, professionalism, and genuine concern for others.
Fran was preceded in death by her mother Eva Mae Dorran, her father Arthur Coughenhour, her stepfather Matthew Dorran, her brother Arthur “Butch” Coughenhour, and her sister Cynthia Coughenhour.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Ken MacLeod of Kingwood, Texas; her son Kenny MacLeod and his wife Tiffany; her daughter Mary MacLeod Elam; and her beloved grandchildren Christopher Elam, Jensen MacLeod Pena and husband Jack, Reed MacLeod, and Allyson Elam, who were truly the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother Michael Coughenhour and wife Gail of Norton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Fran had a joyful spirit and a generous heart. She loved the Houston Astros, loved to dance, and had a remarkable gift for turning friends into family. Her home was the gathering place for neighbors and loved ones, filled with laughter, conversation, and unforgettable pool parties. She found immense joy in knitting blankets for those she loved; each stitch a reflection of her care and thoughtfulness.
Above all, Fran will be remembered for her warmth, her selflessness, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her work, her kindness, and her unwavering presence as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
