

George was born in Rosario, Argentina on August 12, 1936 to the late Enrique Hug and Maria Isabel (Lennox) Hug. He completed medical school in Argentina then finished his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He married Catherine “Kay” Connolly Hug at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alpena, Michigan in 1967.
George was an avid adventurer and traveler. He worked in a variety of places worldwide including Flint, Michigan; Houston, Texas; Tabuk, Saudi Arabia; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; El Campo, Texas; and Bay City, Texas. After retiring from independent practice, he continued to work doing short term medical assignments and international missionary medical work into his 70’s, before becoming ill with Lymphoma. As a physician, he brought joy into countless lives, delivering babies from all over the world, a role he cherished.
He was a passionate reader, researcher, and a loyal friend. George enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Surviving are: 4 children, Elizabeth (Doug) Van Auken, Edward (Gina) Hug, Enrique “E.J.” (Pinar) Hug and Christina Hug; 4 grandchildren: Hannah, Aaron, and Abigail Van Auken and Alex Hug; and one brother, Dr. Carlos Hug.
He remained close with many of his childhood friends. Preceding him in death was Catherine “Kay” Connolly Hug, and his brother, Dr. Henry Hug.
