A reception will follow. Private Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Friday, September 9, 2022.
Gregory Charles Nichols was born on November 3, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Glenn and Albina Nichols and was the second of three sons.
Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Greg attended Hazelwood East High School where he played football, was a State Champion member of the track team, and graduated in 1978. Shortly after, he served in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1984. While in the Navy, Greg served as an FTM2 (Fire Control Technician, Missiles, Second Class) and traveled all over the globe.
Because of his experience in the Navy, Greg was hired to work for ITT Gilfillan in Van Nuys, California, as a Field Service Engineer. It was while working there that he met and fell in love with Margie. Gregory and Marjorie Elizabeth Mortenson were happily married on October 22, 1989.
They lived in Canyon Country, California where Greg was hired by Health Images and they eventually moved to Houston, Texas in 1992. Health Images was bought by General Electric in 1997. Greg worked as a Technical Support Engineer for GE until he retired in 2020. After retirement, Greg worked as an Area Service Manager for Alpha Source Group until May 2022.
Gregory is survived by his wife Marjorie and four children Glenn (31), Peyton (22), Jake (20), and Kylie (17). He loved spending time with his family, listening to music, coaching baseball, fishing, and watching football, basketball, and dance performances. Greg was an avid Saint Louis sports fan and he enjoyed many nights watching Cardinals baseball games together with his family.
Gregory began his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in November 2021. He was admitted to Houston Hospice in the Medical Center on August 8, 2022. During his time there, Gregory was blessed by visits from some of his closest friends, family, and former co-workers from all over the country. Feeling the love and special memories in the room was something we’ll never forget.
Greg has often been described as “the strongest person I know,” so mentally tough as well as physically strong. He was steadfast in his love for his family and touched many lives in his community with his humor, compassion and strength. Greg found peace on August 19, 2022 and will be missed by all who knew him.
