My Father, James “Truman” Dobbins was 76 Years Young when he passed away on December 27, 2020 at 3:50 P.M. into the loving arms of our savior Jesus Christ. Daddy was born on October 12, 1944 in Matador, Texas.

Daddy was preceded in death by his father Guy Odell Dobbins, his mother Jo Beth Allen, his stepson Byron Ford, and granddaughter Amber Dawn Garcia.

Daddy leaves his loved ones behind to remember and honor him such as his loving and devoted wife Elizabeth K. Dobbins aka Beckie of over 14 years; daughter Debra “Debbie” Carole Fry and husband Brad, son James “Glenn” Dobbins and wife Tracy, son Mike Burkett and wife Deanna, daughter Anissa “Renea” Jarvis and husband Carl, stepson Shane Keck and wife Shelley, stepson John Keck and wife Kira, and stepson Blake Ford and wife Brandi.

Daddy’s grandchildren will miss him so very much which include grandson Andrew Lee Garcia and wife Ashli, granddaughter Kayla Brooke Loewen and husband Daniel, granddaughter Dixie Ann Dobbins, granddaughter Nicole “Niki” Deneice Fleming, grandson Doyle Dobbins, grands0n Anthony Hollister and wife Susie, granddaughter Jazgul Burkett, step-grandson Jeremy Jerome Jarvis and wife Leah, step-granddaughter Chassidy Ann Valdez, step-grandson Shelton Keck, step-granddaughters Shayla & Shelby Keck, step-granddaughter Amiee Ingham, step-grandson Trey Keck, step-grandson Denton Keck, and step-grandson Braylan Ford. In addition to his grandkids, Daddy also had several great-grandchildren which include, great-granddaughter Amber Dawn Kyleigh Garcia, great-grandson Andrew Lee Nathan Garcia, great granddaughter Allie Nichole Jane Garcia, step-great grandson, Tyler White, step-great grandson Trey White and step-great grandson Trenton Valdez, great-granddaughter Rhiannon Hollister, great-grandson Logan Fisher Lewis, and great-granddaughter Claire Nicole Loewen.

Daddy also leaves behind several siblings which include his sister Lonella Spruil, sister Venita Tooke Butler, sister Adele Little, brother Dean Tooke and brother Larry Dobbins.

Our Daddy’s first job was as a lifeguard at the local pool in Roaring Springs, Texas. Then he had several jobs like driving a truck and selling coffee. Since Daddy was so good at selling coffee, he went on to open his own business “Truman Dobbins and Associates, Inc.” in January of 1981. Daddy loved his job; over the years he had won many awards for Salesman of the Year and was in business for over 19 years until he retired at the end of 2000. (Daddy had sold his business to our brother Mike and he is still the owner of Truman Dobbins and Associates, Inc. to this day.) He then moved to Lake Livingston Texas where he had owned property on the Lake for many years.

Daddy was a BIG-TIME fisherman; he had been on many fishing trips with his son Glenn and grandson Andrew. Daddy always took us kids fishing, he loved fishing and loved to teach us kids about fishing. Daddy had owned both a bass boat and a pontoon boat and he was always up really, really early to go fishing (we all experience that early morning wake up squirt of water in the face if you didn’t wake up the first time we were told). When Daddy felt like he could no longer maintain his property on Lake Livingston he decided to move back to the Houston area and was living in Kingwood for the last several years.

Daddy loved to travel, he had owned several motor homes and has traveled across the United States and Canada during his retirement. Most recently on June 8, 2020 Daddy and Beckie traveled to Northern Indiana to visit some motor home friends; then to Sevierville, Tennessee to visit more of their friends; then on to Kingsport, Tennessee to see Beckie’s son Blake and his family; then on to Tulsa, Oklahoma to see Beckie’s other son John and his family and finally returned home on August 19, 2020, he always wanted to get away from the heat in Houston during the hot summer months.

The funeral service will be held on January 5, 2021 at 2:00PM at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Hwy 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339. Officiating will be Pastor Mike McMahon of Monument Baptist Church in Deer Park, Texas, of which our brother Glenn and his family are members. If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Star of Hope, Houston or Wounded Warriors or Shriners Hospital in Daddy’s name “James Truman Dobbins”.

Daddy will be missed, but NEVER forgotten! We love you Daddy!

It's hard to believe that this is really happened. I don't even know where to begin except to say that you are an amazing father-in-law. You accepted me into your family and always treated me with respect and love. I will cherish the memories I have of you. I see in my husband the many things that you taught him. Your love included my son and my granddaughter. When we adopted you welcomed our daughter with open arms even waited a day or 2 to go on one of your summer adventures so that you could meet her. You always spoke your mind and had a hug for each of us. The blessing is knowing you are in heaven. Prayers for Beckie and all of us! Love Deanna
