Jane Llewellyn Howell Clegg, of Kingwood, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at age eighty-six. She was born December 15, 1935 in Orange, NJ to Colonel & Mrs. Llewellyn C. Howell, their only child. Jane’s father was a respected colonel in the military and they moved around to many different bases during her childhood years. In 1958 she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami at Ohio, having majored in education with a focus on home economics. She also began taking flying lessons during college. She was a co-pilot in the 1958 Powder Puff Derby, a 2,470 mile aeronautic race. The following year she entered again, this time flying solo in a Cessna 172, becoming the youngest soloist ever up to that point. She was twenty-three.
Around this same time, she met Johnson Roselle Clegg, Jr. (JR), and they married on June 17, 1960 in Dayton, OH. A few years later, they moved to the Houston area, where they had 6 children, including a set of triplets. They moved to Kingwood in 1974, and that is where she called home ever since. Raising 6 children was her full time job, but she also helped JR with his oil & gas business. After the kids were on their own, she started working part time for Chelsea’s Deli and then J Christopher’s, both in Kingwood. She divorced in 1996, and became very involved with the church and helping others through Celebrate Recovery. She was very adventurous and enjoyed traveling for different events as well as visiting her children. On her 80th birthday, Jay took her skydiving, and in recent years, she went to go shoot rifles at a gun range and went zip lining. Jane was up for anything.
She has touched so many with her generosity, vibrant spirit, kindness and never-ending love for The Lord. To KNOW her is to LOVE her. She will be so deeply and forever missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband. She leaves behind her six children; Jay Clegg, Frank Clegg, Elizabeth Nisson, Cynthia Clegg, Jennifer Clegg and Lynda Guarnieri; nine grandchildren; Devin Nisson, Cullen Nisson, Amesley Nisson, Ashton Nisson, Morgan Richards, JT Clegg, Julia Clegg, Drew Guarnieri and Dylan Guarnieri and 2 great grandchildren; Alli-Mae Rives and Dashel Richards.
