Jerry graduated from Mt. Olive High School where he excelled in sports and was voted Mr. Mt. Olive High School in his senior year.
After high school he attended Jones Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and then got a football scholarship at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) where he was tri-captain of the team. At USL he was an S Club member and was invited into the honorary engineering fraternity Tau Beta Pi. There he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
In 1962, Jerry joined Chevron as a Civil Engineer and later worked in management. He worked in Louisiana, Texas and California as well as overseas in Indonesia, Australia and both New Brunswick and Calgary in Canada. He was highly regarded as an influential leader and selflessly mentored others.
Jerry loved woodworking, playing golf, working in the yard and traveling to visit family and friends in Mississippi, Louisiana and California. He was also a member of the Kingwood First Baptist Church.
Jerry met Joy in 1959 and later married on June 15th, 1963. Their first son Ken was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1966. Later, sons Devin (1970) and Jay (1972) were born in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Jerry is preceded in death by his son Ken, brothers Mack and Don, sister Barbara and his mother and father. Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years Joy of Kingwood, Texas; son Devin and his wife Julie and son Caden of Danville, California; son Jay and his wife Christine and daughters Vivian and Stella of San Diego, California.
