John Frank Liptak (“Big John”), age 80, passed away peacefully in Kingwood, Texas, on February 24, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. Born on April 27, 1945, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Big John lived his life to the fullest with a foundation of deep devotion to his family and faith.
John left Pennsylvania as a young man after earning a full scholarship to play football at Texas A&M University — an opportunity that shaped the rest of his life. As an Aggie, he played football and threw the discus, taking tremendous pride in wearing the maroon and white. He never removed his Aggie ring, a symbol of the brotherhood and tradition he cherished deeply. His love for Texas A&M remained unwavering, and he carried the Aggie spirit with him in everything he did.
Professionally, John spent his entire career in sales, most notably with Associated Building Services, selling janitorial and building services. He was a natural salesman. John’s work ethic, persistence and people skills helped define his success.
John never met a stranger. He was outgoing, gregarious, and bigger than life. He could walk into any room and leave with new friends. His personality was magnetic, his handshake firm, and his word dependable. Above all, he believed in one guiding principle: “Do the right thing.” It was advice he gave often — and lived daily.
John was athletic and strong, known affectionately by many as “Big John,” a nickname that captured both his physical presence and his larger-than-life spirit. He was always ready for a good time, loyal to the people and places he loved, and could make an entire room double over in laughter. Everyone who knew him has a story — and hearing those stories told by John himself was always the best part. His timing, expressions, and delivery were legendary.
He was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Kingwood since its inception. His faith was steady and foundational throughout his life.
At home, John cherished his routines: Saturday morning errands, reading the newspaper daily, watching football, scratching lottery tickets, and performing a set of arm curls before his shower. He could drink coffee at any hour — especially if someone else was willing to make it. But more than any routine, he loved his family. He adored and worshiped his wife of nearly 49 years, Donna Liptak, and would have done anything for her. Together, they built a life grounded in love and commitment. He was a proud and devoted father to Kristopher Liptak (Jamie) and Laura Couvillon (Jared). His greatest joy was being “Pap Pap” to his six grandchildren: James, Elliot, and Palmer Liptak; and Elizabeth, Caleb, and Jacob Couvillon. His unconditional love, encouragement, and humor shaped their lives in ways that will endure for generations.
In his later years, John battled Parkinson’s Dementia — a cruel disease that dimmed his vibrant light but never erased the heart of who he was. Even as the disease progressed, his love for his family and his enduring spirit remained evident. His passing was peaceful and mercifully quick, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is restored and whole.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Liptak; his children, Kristopher Liptak (Jamie) and Laura Couvillon (Jared); his grandchildren, James, Elliot, Palmer, Elizabeth, Caleb, and Jacob; and his brother, Ronald Liptak (Connie). He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Francis Liptak.
Though his physical presence is gone, the legend of Big John lives on in the laughter he sparked, the loyalty he embodied, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always celebrated.
Funeral services will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home (22800 Highway 59 North Kingwood, Texas) , Friday, March 20,2026 at 10 AM. Immediately following the service will be a reception at the Kingwood Country Club.
