With eternal love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of our wife, mother, “Mimi”, sister, aunt, and friend Maryann Sukoloski Kupstas, who passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 1st, 2024.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1948, to William and Mary Sukoloski, Maryann was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Larry Kupstas, for more than 55 years. Over those years, they were blessed with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. From upstate New York to 7 happy years in Wilbraham, MA, with the last 35 years in Kingwood, TX, they lived at 10 different addresses where they made many treasured friends and wonderful memories along the way.
Maryann was the proud mom to their three children, Kimberly, Caroline, and Adam. Always volunteering, she served as their Girl Scout/Cub Scout leader, brought the snacks and cheered on the sidelines, helped with every school project, and guided them through every challenge life threw their way. Leading by example, she taught them the value of hard work and what being a family and a friend truly means.
Maryann’s greatest joys were her six grandchildren, to whom she will always be Mimi: Lauren, Elizabeth, and Jack Daley, Max Rezzonico, and Evelyn and Michael Kupstas. From Mimi’s legendary cross-country road trips to creating memorable celebrations for every holiday, much of her life’s enjoyment revolved around her love for them.
Maryann’s calling was caring for others. After earning her nursing degree from Holyoke College, Maryann worked as a RN for almost 50 years in several capacities. She eventually retired as Practice Manager from Texas Children’s Pediatrics Kingwood, where for 20 years she continued her care and support to countless patients, families, and staff.
Maryann enjoyed traveling and creating new experiences. With Larry, she traveled far abroad, including throughout Europe, China and Iceland. In recent years, a house on Lake Livingston has provided a nearby escape, where many family memories were made and every sunset was appreciated. Maryann also devoured books, reading several books at the same time and hosting a book club with family members and friends. She greatly enjoyed spending time with good friends, belonging to the same Bunco group for over 30 years.
At home, Maryann embraced holidays and special events like no other. Her attic and spare room overflowed with boxes of decorations and gifts for every season, holiday, and birthday throughout the year and there was always a card sent for every occasion. Her enormous heart and deep empathy for her loved ones, friends, and colleagues made her the first person many sought for advice and comfort, while never expecting anything in return. She quietly helped so many, was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed by all.
Maryann is survived by her husband Larry; her three children Kimberly (Mark) Rezzonico of Florham Park, NJ, Caroline (Paul) Daley of Kingwood, TX, and Adam (Debbie) Kupstas also of Kingwood, TX; her grandchildren: Lauren, Elizabeth and Jack Daley; Max Rezzonico; and Evelyn and Michael Kupstas; her siblings: Janet (Bob) Pecott of Little River, SC, Diane (John) Schimmelbusch of Kingwood, TX, sister-in-law Vicki (Bill) Sukoloski of Woodstock, GA; and mother-in-law Elsie Kupstas of Kingwood, TX; in addition to many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Mary Sukoloski and her brother Bill Sukoloski.
There will be a Celebration of Maryann’s Life at Kingwood Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6th at 2pm. To help celebrate Maryann, we encourage everyone attending to wear something blue, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Maryann’s granddaughter Lauren’s education (www.HelpLaurenLearn.com for donation information).
