Raymond was born in Humble, Texas on August 18, 1924 to Charles and Lillian Carr, direct descendents of the earliest settlers in the Humble and Splendora area, and was so very proud of his heritage. He graduated from Humble High School in 1942. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. Raymond was above all, a true American all his life. He married Minetta May Wigand in 1945. They had four children, Jerry Wayne , Raymond Lee, Lillian Annette, and Mark Stephen Carr. Always seeking new horizons, he and Minetta moved the kids to Alaska in 1966 where he was employed by and retired from Unocal. With his bare hands, he logged and shaved all the trees to build his family's entire home in Alaska, while he also became a successful commercial salmon fisherman and a very capable bush pilot. Ray returned to Humble in 2002 and married Louise Smith in 2003. He belongs to the Masonic Lodge, Shriners International Lake Houston Shriners, American Legion Post 132, a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, the NRA, and probably 90% of the golf courses in the United States ! Raymond was always an avid deer and bear hunter, and later in life, his favorite past times were painting, playing golf, watching football, basketball and traveling the world. The world was not going to revolve without him turning it and he did not like sitting still! And he could relate a tale like no one else. A frugal man, if something was broken, he believed if he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed !
Raymond always wanted others to be as happy as he was and shared all he could, whether it was donating to worthy causes or helping his family and friends.
He never took any task or obligation lightly. He pursued all he did with all the gusto he had, sometimes doing more than task one at a time! Raymond never jumped to conclusions, always weighed every decision or occurrence with analylitical preciseness , and as wise as he was, he always wanted to learn more, as evident in his paintings and story telling classes. Reading was important to him and he loved history, world travel and everything else ! His word could be written in stone. .
