

He was born to John and Anna Capik on February 23, 1935, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Richard graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953 and went on to graduate from Rutgers University in 1957. After graduation, he served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and later in the Army Reserve.
Richard began working for Shell Oil in 1959 and retired after 35 years of dedicated service in 1994.
He married Virginia Denman on August 1, 1970, and they had two daughters, Tracy and Susan.
In 1977, they moved to Spring, Texas during the oil boom, where Richard lived in the same home on Springton Lane for forty-five years.
He was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Spring, Texas and later attended St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Kingwood since 2022.
Richard will be remembered for his love of sports, playing cards, and his deep love for his family.
He could be found at grandchildren’s sporting events, sacraments and birthdays. He enjoyed celebrating at family gatherings.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Capik: his wife, Virginia Capik; and his older brother Monsignor William Capik.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracy (Larry) Gregory of Kingwood, Texas and Susan (Tom) Deming of Cibolo, Texas; his seven grandchildren: William, Margo, Andrew and Elaine Gregory; and Courtney, Megan, and Samuel Deming.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Porter, Texas on
Friday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Chapel.
He will be laid to rest in Perth Amboy, New Jersey with his wife, parents and brother.
