Robert Donald Pedigree of Kingwood, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on April 22, 2025. Bob was born on September 11, 1931 in Greenfield, Massachusetts to Richard and Mildred Pedigree, predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane of almost 50 years, brother, Richard, and sister, Elaine Bitters, He is survived by his brother William and loving children, Sandy Hidy (Jim), Teri, and Amy Dickson (Jeff); beloved grandchildren, Jamie Vadewinkle (Dave), Robert, and Charlie Dickson; loving great-grandchildren, Harlan and Jane Vandewinkle.
Bob’s love of sports began at a young age and he excelled in baseball. After graduating from Greenfield High School in 1949, he attended Deerfield Academy for one year then proceeded to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Playing shortstop, Bob’s athleticism, quick reflexes, and strategic decision making skills were impressive and vital to the team. His dynamic skills earned him the honor as captain of the team during his senior year in 1954. Collectively, the team had an outstanding season, winning the league, then heading to Omaha for the College World Series! Bob’s stellar baseball career continued when he signed with the Cleveland Indians to a farm league minor contract. He played for the Reading Indians for 3 seasons. He continued to excel on the infield and was a crowd favorite to watch in action. Bob was promoted to AA Mobile Alabama Bears in 1958 where he met the love of his life, Jane Fowler. While he only played with the team for one season, he certainly returned home to Reading with the prize of a lifetime.
Bob hung up his ball cap, got married, and began his successful career in sales for the tool and die industry where he worked diligently into his early seventies. He was an inspiration and mentor to many colleagues throughout his career.
Bob and Jane were both passionate about golf and could often be found enjoying a round whether together or separately. Being the natural athlete that Bob was, it goes without saying that he was an incredible golfer. Therefore, we were not surprised when he made a hole-in-one! Of course, Jane was up for the challenge and a few years later she achieved her ace as well!
Bob was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His commitment and love for his family was unwavering. Bob's life was a testament to the strength of familial bonds and the joy of everyday moments.
In remembering Bob, we cherish the laughter, the lessons, and the unconditional love he shared, allowing his legacy to guide us and bring comfort. He will be deeply missed, but the joy he brought into our lives will forever warm our hearts.
