A career Naval officer, Lieutenant Commander Devore retired after twenty years of service to his country; settling in the east Texas community of New York, near Tyler, in the summer of 1979. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Roger co-founded St. John Lutheran Church in Athens, TX in the early 1980’s, serving as the church’s president and head usher.
