Rosario Fatima Rivas Ricker, age 68, passed away on Friday September 3, 2021 in Kingwood Texas. She was born in Havana, Cuba to Lucrecia Alfonso and Alberto Rivas Nuñez, and immigrated to the United States with her mother as a child and lived in New York and Florida. In 1974, she married her sweetheart Owen Ricker Jr. in the Manti Temple and started their family in Florida, before settling in Texas where they raised their six children.
After her husband’s death, Rosario completed her college degree in education and graduated from the University of Houston, Victoria. She then worked as an elementary and middle school reading, language arts, Spanish, and ESL teacher. She went on to spend over two decades in the classroom instilling her love of literature and language in her students.
Above all, Rosario valued her family and her Savior, Jesus Christ. She dedicated her life to strengthening her relationship with both. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in many different capacities, touching countless lives. Rosario’s most treasured moments were those spent in the company of her children and grandchildren. She was fiercely patriotic and never took for granted the liberties and freedoms she enjoyed or those who gave their lives for them. She will be remembered for her love of Disney, Lego, music, and all things creative.
Rosario's absence will be profoundly felt; however, she has been received by her loved ones who preceded her in death, including her parents, her brother, Andres, her grandson, Peyton Ricker, and her husband, Owen Ricker Jr.. She is survived by her children, Charité Ricker, Robert Ricker, Ruth Carruth, Rebekah Stockton, Jared Ricker, and Sarah von Arx, their spouses, twenty-seven grandchildren, and her sister Isabel.
A funeral service for Rosario will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3408 N Ben Wilson St, Victoria, TX 77901 on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 10:00 am. A Zoom link will be made available for those who wish to participate remotely. The funeral will be followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
