

Sonia Renee Pires, 88, of Kingwood, passed away March 2, 2026. She was born November 5, 1937, in San Ramon, Uruguay to Juana Cerisola. She was the oldest of 6 siblings and helped her mother raise most of them.
Throughout her life, Sonia was known for her radiant smile, positive demeanor, witty sense of humor, and eagerness to help others in whatever way she could. Her biggest priorities and loves in life were her family and God.
At 15, she went to Montevideo to work as a maid and nanny before she later met her future husband through her sister's business. She married Jose Pires in August 1963 and they later immigrated to Queens, New York in 1969 with their three-year-old son.
Arriving in a country where she did not speak the language or know the culture, she and Jose persisted in creating a life for their family. After living in New York for a year, they moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey where she worked as a machinist making industrial furnace parts for 30+ years until retiring to Boca Raton, Florida in 2001. She moved to Houston, Texas in 2006 to spend the rest of her years close to her son and grandchildren.
Along with her big heart, Sonia had varied interests and an adventurous spirit. She loved to keep a clean house and cook for anyone who was hungry. She enjoyed traveling, beach trips, and was fearless in regards to amusement park rides and rollercoasters. She was also known for her love of perfumes, candles, and jewelry.
Sonia is preceded in death by her mother (Juana), siblings (Iris, Nilba, Luis, Liche, Olga) and husband of 59 years (Jose).
Sonia is survived by her son, Adrian Pires and wife, Rebecca; grandchildren Brittany Pires, Brandon Pires, Marlene Ross-Adams, Jenna Perkins, Kayla Driver, and 5 great-grandchildren.
