Vada married Martin Paul Rackel in November of 1940 before he left to fight the war overseas. They were able to share 43 years of marriage and raise four children before he passed away in 1983. Vada is also preceded in death by her oldest son, Bobby Jay Rackel.
She delighted in her travels. From Europe to Australia, from Alaska to Hawaii and the Panama Canal. She loved seeing new places. While practical, Vada had that touch of flamboyancy that you could see in her smile. Her interests ranged from a rough and tumble game of hockey, to NASCAR, horse racing, golf, and figure skating.
Vada's love and influence are evident in the ones she leaves behind. Her two loving daughters, Paulette Bosley and her husband, Jerry, and Debra Leatherwood and her husband, Randy, and her son Michael Rackel and his wife, Robyn. She also leaves behind a brother, Curtis Buckner, her sisters, Ferrell Roberts, Juanita Hode, Irene Blissard, and Ovella Tomlinson, nine grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family will have a visitation on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from six o'clock p.m. to eight o'clock p.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home. The funeral service for Ms. Rackel will take place on Friday, March 1, 2013 at two o'clock p.m. in Kingwood Funeral Home's Chapel.
