Wellington Bud G. Watson

Wellington G. “Bud” Watson born May 21, 1922 in Oil City, LA and passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, in Kingwood, TX. He was born to Joseph Presley and Willie Watson in Oil City, Louisiana. He and his family moved to New London, Texas when he was 7 years old and he was one of few who survived the New London School explosion in 1937. He attended the first National Boy Scout Jamboree in the U.S. where he received his Eagle Scout award. In 1940, he proudly enrolled in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A & M University. He volunteered to serve his country in 1942 and became a naval flight aviator in the US Navy. Following his service to his country he returned to A & M where he completed his degree in Geology and graduated in 1949. Upon graduation he joined Humble Oil and Refining Company. In 1950 he married Peggy S. Smith. After 37 years of service he retired from Exxon Corporation in 1986. Bud was a long time active member of Kingwood First Baptist Church. He spent many summers in Breckinridge, Colorado and loved travelling the world with his wife. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy; sons, Cary Watson (Debbie) and Paul Watson (Clarise) and grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, John and Laura Watson. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph P. Watson, Jr. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Kingwood First Baptist Church, 3500 Woodland Hills Dr., Kingwood, Texas 77339.
