Annie Charlotte Jehu

Ann was a woman of creativity, warmth, and quiet joy. She found beauty in everyday moments and expressed it through her many talents—pottery, ceramics, painting, drawing, sewing, and knitting. Her creativity was evident early on, from designing paper doll clothes for her sister Kay to later painting cherished pieces like the face on her nieces’ ballerina mural. Each Christmas, she brought magic to life by designing festive scenes on the family’s front window, a tradition that delighted those around her. She had a deep love of learning and simple pleasures—losing herself in a good book and completing her daily crossword in the newspaper.

She also had a wonderful sense of humour and a natural lightness that made time with her easy and joyful.

Ann’s life was grounded in love—especially for her family. She will be loved and missed by those she leaves behind.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter Carolyn Henderson Lukas and a caring stepmother to Craig Jehu (2008) and Guy Jehu (Diana). Ann was a thoughtful sister to Gordon Proud (Gladys), Evelyn Tremelling (2012) (Jim {2009}), and Kathleen “Kay” Verdone (John).

She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert Kenneth Henderson, whom she married in 1960 and lost in 1979, and Ray Jehu whom she married in 1986 who passed in 2003.

Known for keeping in touch in meaningful ways with those she loved, one year Ann called everyone on her Christmas list instead of sending cards.

Ann met Ray, the light of her life, at a dance—fitting for someone who loved to dance. Together, they shared many joyful moments on the dance floor, a reflection of their spirited nature. They also loved to travel together,

She worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food with the veterinary laboratory services, beginning in New Liskeard and later transferring to the Guelph office in 1978.

An early retirement allowed her to enjoy many traveling experiences with Ray.

She was proud to have been the first in her family to graduate from high school, a quiet but meaningful accomplishment that reflected her determination.

Ann held fond memories of her early working years at Taylor Hardware in New Liskeard. There she made close lifelong friendships with Darlene Williams and Gail Hallworth.

She found happiness in the simple things—her garden, her beloved rescue cats, and the comfort of home. She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, resilience, and love that will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.

According to Ann’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration and remembrance of her life will be held in late June. Time and place to be announced.
