Dr. Bruce Madill Jackson – It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our loving Father, Grandfather, great grandfather and husband on August 27, 2013. Bruce had a very fortunate life with his parents, Dr. Gordon and Florence Jackson. He became a Boy Scout, enjoyed camping and fishing with his Father, and following in his father’s footsteps, entered the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1950 and starting a Dental Practice in Kitchener. He met his Miss Ruth McKerrow while attending University Of Toronto; they were married in 1951. He became active in the InterCounty Dental Association, now the Waterloo Dental Society and was also in the Ontario Dental Association. He served 6 years as a member of the Executive Council and was also a member of several committees. He received the Service Award, was honored with the Barnabus Day Award and was a member of the Canadian Academy of Prosthodontics, becoming President. His love for Scouting continued in Kitchener as Leader with the 8th Kitchener Troop and became President of North Waterloo Boy Scout Association and became President of the Provincial Association of Ontario Boy Scouts. He was presented with the Silver Acorn Award by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Mrs. Pauline McGibbon. Both he and Ruth enjoyed a good life together. They were very proud of their children, Ken and wife Brenda, Margaret and husband Malcolm and Helen and husband Scott, their grandchildren Daina, Reed, Coralee (Chris Sonnenberg), Kenneth and Robert and their great-grandchildren Ruth and Eric. Life at Tobermory became very important to the growing family and they spent a large part of their life there. The development of the National Parks resulted in activity with the Advisory Committee of the Parks and with the newly formed Property Owners Association and was Charter President. The family will receive friends at Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 4pm until 7 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Forest Hill United Church, 121 Westmount Road East, Kitchener at 2pm. Interment will take place at a later date at Dunks Bay Cemetery in Tobermory. Those who are wishing to make donations in memory of Bruce may direct them to Forest Hill United Church or to Scouts Canada Foundation; two charities he held near and dear to his heart.
