

Despite a strong spirit and a valiant effort, Carmella Frances Kitchen (Curtis) passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Lisaard House on May 13, 2013. She was born in Glace Bay, NS on January 24, 1937. Predeceased by her parents William and Margaret Curtis, and siblings Corena Eckstein, Tess Burke, Elaine Bieth and Gerald Curtis. She is survived by her loving husband, Mel, of 58 years and will be cherished and loved forever by her children Rick (Laurie) Kitchen, Debbie Kitchen, Carolyn Thomas and Lori Rose, all of Kitchener. Proud and much loved Nannie of grandchildren Jeremy, Jeffery and Amee Martin, Christopher and Theresa Costa, Angela VanKoughnett, Philip Rose, Emily Balsillie, Michael, Stephen and Benjamin Kitchen and great-grandchildren Lukah, Phoenix and baby Quinn Rowe, Aurora and Peyton Martin, Sasha and Alexander Martin, Sophie and Baby VanKoughnett, and Theodora Jesso. Also survived by brothers William (Rita) Curtis, Fabe (Marlene) Curtis, Winston (Barb) Curtis, brother-in-law Wayne Bieth, sister-in-law Audrey Rivers as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the many doctors and health care providers at Grand River Cancer Centre as well as CCAC and Care Partners who helped us care for her at home as long as possible. Also thanks to the staff at Lisaard House for providing compassionate care and support in her final days. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Westmount Funeral Chapel (1001 Ottawa St. S. 519-743-8900) on May 16, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 10am at Westmount Funeral Chapel. As expressions of sympathy, donations in her memory to Lisaard House would be appreciated by the family.
