Loving and supportive wife of the late Ronald Hummel (2018). Proud mother and much loved by her 7 children; Steve (Monica), Jim (Liz), Nina Wallace, Lisa (Dan), Tony (Julie), Andrew and Adrienne (Rob). Warm and loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by sisters Josephine Stepien (2012) and Rita Carlisle (2012). Survived by her sister Julie (Gagnon). Cecile was a full-time mom in a busy home but still found time for involvement in the St. Joseph Church CWL and church choir for many years. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and a green thumb, she loved gardening and flowers. Her love of books and reading made her a formidable opponent at Scrabble which she enjoyed playing especially with her children at the kitchen table. She always had her opponent keep score, more than likely so she could keep focus on winning the game. Music was always playing in the house, most often we could hear her favourite Andrea Bocelli’s voice carry through the house and outside to the backyard. She loved movies old and new. Her first-born son Steve named after her favourite actor at that time, Stephen Boyd. Both she and dad rarely missed watching her children’s baseball and basketball games and was a popular presence at gyms and ball fields throughout the area. Cecile was an excellent cook! We all requested our favourite pie instead of cake for our birthdays and her potato salad was a must at family gatherings. Her recipes have been handed down to her children so we will always have mom around our kitchen tables. Cecile was a woman of strong moral character and did not shy away from expressing her opinions. She imprinted upon her children, values of honesty, humility, family duty and unconditional love. Her often-used phrase “If I got it, I give it”, speaks to her generous and empathetic nature towards family and friends. She will be missed but not forgotten. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Cecile with her family during visitation on Tuesday, June 21 from 5-7 pm at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S. Kitchener. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, June 22 at 1:00 pm in the chapel with reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation or the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo.
