Madonna, Darlene, and family. I am sorry I cannot be in Kitchner right now, but my thoughts are very much with you. The loss of Darren is hard to believe at the moment. I so remember the best of him. His laugh, his smile, his overall positive energy. I remember meeting Darren as a young kid when visiting Pop, and you both; I could tell Darren loved me right away, as a great uncle would. He would make you feel right at home. 
I remember he always loved a good laugh and a chance to make fun of me some. Which was awesome! I recall Darren being a loyal sports fan, and we connected instantly on that. As we know, with loss, everything is hard, but a life well lived is something to cherish and celebrate. Rest easy Darren, say hi to Pop for me! Love, Christopher

Madonna, Darlene, Jim, Shannon and Connor, words cannot express how heart broken we were to hear of Darren's passing.  Darren was such a gentle and kind man who enjoyed life to the fullest.  We enjoyed the many times we spent with him during his many visits back to NL and our visits to ON.  Madonna and Darlene one thing that was easy to see was how much love he had for you both.  Hold onto all of the wonderful memories you have, the beautiful pictures show just that.  He will be forever missed, sending all our love.

So sorry to hear of Darren’s passing! Death of a loved one is so hard to process. I’m so glad I got to see Darren when he was home last time. Everyone around mom’s table enjoying food. Mom’s favourite place! Mom loved Darren and Darlene and missed them so much when she moved back to NL from Kitchener. Darren was such a kind person! Although we did not spend much time together over the years , I was always impressed by Darren’s positive outlook on all aspects of life.  He saw the good in all things and in everyone he met. In reading some of the condolences from his family and friends, it seems to be a reoccurring message. It shows he was loved and admired by a lot of people.

I've known Darren for over 35 years. We had great times together over the years that will remain with me forever. We spent many years downtown playing pool with his neighbors Mike and Paul at Wizard World. We had such a great time at that place and still talk about it till this day. Darren joined me on many fishing trips and always came with a smile and went out of his way to make people laugh. Darren never missed a beat and would always come to my Mom's house every Christmas Eve right from the beginning to see my family. My Mom told me that he would always bring her a box of chocolates every year.  My family was always happy to see "The Champ". As my brothers told me, he was gold,  had a smile and laugh that will never be forgotten and an innocence that was rare. He will forever be missed.

Madonna, Darlene and family, I am so sorry for the loss of Darren. He was one special guy. “ My Cuz, “ I would call him. He always laughed at that. Everyone’s heart is hurting not only for themselves but for you guys as well. “The Rock’” as Darren would say. Darren’s family from afar are sending love and prayers at this very difficult time.

Our last conversation was about the good ol Leafs. I told Darren the Maple Leafs should sign the rat. The rat is none other than Brad Marchand. 
 I spoke of Brad by saying , “We can’t beat him. We might as well sign him! Sign Tanev also! Darren didn’t disagree. RIP Darren (Cuz). I will miss our chats about the Leafs. One more. GO LEAFS GO….

Darren traveled to Newfoundland to be a part of my wedding.  I was so proud to have my cousin stand with me. Memories will last forever.  I will miss you Cuz. Until we meet again. Go Leafs Go. Go Jays Go….

Darren a great childhood friend a life remembered through friendship, laughter, kindness, and Joy
Darren was a wonderful soul and friend. I knew Darren well, Darren was an extraordinary story teller with every story that made everyone laugh. Everyone looked forward to being around Darren I was fortunate to have Darren as a childhood friend and in our youth.  From a young age, Darren had a lightness about him a friendly warmth that drew everyone in and a sense of humor that could fill a room without any effort, he was naturally funny.  I never knew anyone that could make people laugh in the way Darren made everyone laugh.  Whether it was a casual story or a spontaneous observation, Darren could make people laugh in that rare genuine way that stays with you.  I remember one time Darren made my sisters Susan and Patricia continuously crack up laughing. He made my sister Judy and I laugh all the time.  There was never a time Darren didn’t make mom my laugh. 
He had a unique wonderful storyteller’s ability that came naturally because it was simply who Darren was and with each story there was a natural funny punch line, many funny punch lines!   With Darren everyday were fun moments, you always knew when you were with Darren you were guaranteed to have a laugh.  
Darren made his mom laugh all the time, I remember the time Darren placed his hockey helmet on his mom’s head and said ok now mom you can chop the wood. 
Growing up Darren with all of his friends spent his youth playing hockey at Northward Park, incredible found memories. Darren always brought the same fun joy laughter at hockey that he carried into everyday part of his life.  In his youth and beyond, he was a good friend to everyone.
To know Darren was to be incredibly fortunate. At every moment with Darren there were always joking and laughing, he was one of the most honest, decent, kind, generous souls, and to have as a friend.  His memory in every story, every laugh, Darren you are a good Soul! +

I've known Darren pretty much my whole life. We became good friends when he was 18. I remember great conversations with him, and his mother, Madonna, and his late father Ron. He adored his sister, Darlene.
I remember him going to dances at Super Skate 7. I remember seeing The Cure on The Prayer Tour with him. It was August 28, 1989, in Toronto at the CNE Grandstand. Love and Rockets and the Pixies opened. We went to Sauble Beach often. We'd camp or stay at our friend Geoff's family cottage. I remember him going to Club Abstract with his cousin Craig.

I remember watching him referee hockey games. He played tennis. We even went to a Rogers Cup in Toronto. I remember winning a doubles pool tournament with him at Wizard World. He could play "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" on his acoustic guitar. He didn't sing half bad either.

He went to Humber College to be an electrician. He was only a credit or two short of his diploma. He came home from Humber with two Datsun 280s. Two useless cars. They were eventually scrapped, never driven.

I remember him driving an AZ truck for Swan Dust Control. He drove to and from Waterloo and Toronto. He trained me to drive an AZ truck. I got my license thanks to him. Then he started at Challenger Motor Freight, doing long haul. He loved the KFC in the States. I remember he got a truck stuck in the mud. It was in a small town on the way to Texas. Local news even reported on it. A slow news day, I guess. He hit a deer. He even pooped his pants. 

He did a bit of acting. He loved Billy Idol. He loved the Leafs. I remember when he became a bus driver.

I remember him getting diagnosed with diabetes. He ultimately had to get dialysis. He was incredibly upbeat about it. Even until the end, I was texting with him. He was joking about his dialysis line.

I will miss him. See you, Champ.

I was rattled to hear of Darren’s passing. I’ve known him for over 40 years. I still remember when he was our neighbourhood paperboy, and later as a referee for Kitchener Minor Hockey. I remember the weekends at Wizard World, battling it out in pool tournaments. And I’ll never forget him at my bachelor party 14 years ago—standing by me, as he always did, through the big moments and the small.

He was a great friend, an honest man, and a proud Leafs fan through thick and thin. 

My heart goes out to Darlene and Madonna, and all who loved him. Rest easy, Champ.

I met Darren at work many years ago when he was a teenager working for the city of Kitchener in custodial services. When he became a GRT bus driver, we became reacquainted and spent many a break or lunch hour chatting in the staff  lounge. I have always enjoyed our conversations, from lighthearted  greetings to serious topics,  to life advice. It is heartbreaking that he is gone.  Darren will be missed by many.

I worked with Darren at GRT. Unfortunately I haven't seen Darren for many years now. I missed him then and will especially miss him now. We hung around in 2006. We enjoyed each other's company. He was the one that finally helped me to quit smoking because I enjoyed his company, that I didn't need to smoke. I met his Mom once. Unfortunately I can't make it to be at his funeral to say goodbye. My condolences to his family. Darren was one of the good guys.

How very sad to read of Darrens' passing.   I used to enjoy our chats at GRT.  Darren always had a smile and a wave as we passed on the street in our buses.  My deepest condolences to his entire family.

Sending prayers  to Darren  family.  He was a awesome  man always  fun to be around . I have known Darren for over 40 years met through  my brother John  Darren has been his friend  for over 45years they went to school together we all had fun going to Cuba together or I see him at John's time to time . He will always  have a place in my heart  . He will always be missed but never forgotten R.I.P Darren

I worked with Darren for many years. Though we only spoke at work and sometimes texted each other outside of work hours, we always had great conversations. He always tried to see the best in every situation, and had good words of encouragement. I will miss our conversations and seeing him around.
Gone far too soon from this earth, but now living peacefully with our Lord in heaven.

I have known Darren for many years as a friend of my son's in the North ward. Darren was always so friendly and loved his family and friends.  He was loyal to his beloved East coast roots.  We are so sorry to have lost Darren at this young age. Rest in peace Darren .
