Harvey N. Ackerman

Harvey passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 at the age of 90. Harvey was born to Clifford Ackerman and Mary Robinson in Picton, Ontario on April 11, 1932. After graduating high school he began his career at Bata Footwear in Batawa, Ontario while attending Queen’s University. Harvey obtained degrees in both Business Administration and Industrial Engineering. After 24 years Harvey went on to work for Tender Tootsies and finally Kaufman footwear where he retired. Harvey also served in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve and was the Founder of the Glencoe Lions Club.

Harvey was a beloved husband of Lina for 35 years. Dearest father of Neil (Laurie), Tracy, Jessica (David) and the late Pamela (1993). Loving grandfather of Nicole and Jamie (Katlyn) Kox, Candice (Rob) Grandy, Scott Ackerman, Matthew and Graham Parsons, Otis Lynom and 8 great-grandchildren. Harvey is predeceased by his brother Garnet.

Harvey took great pride in being a Free Mason, an active and working member of Lorne Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. After obtaining his 32nd degree in Hamilton, Harvey went on to become a Shriner and joined the Mocha Temple in London, Ontario. Here he continued his community work with the Jeepster Unit and 100 Million Dollar Club. Harvey loved spending his time being active which included hockey and baseball, but he especially loved golf. Harvey was a member of Sunningdale Golf Club and Galt Country Club and entered the Hole-in-One club in 1982. In the evenings Harvey enjoyed attempting to play his organ and harmonica for all to hear.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, October 27th at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S. Kitchener, 519-743-8900. A Celebration of Life will take place from 1-3pm, with words from the family at 2:30pm. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
