She is predeceased by her parents Clarence & Barbara Straus, her elder brother, Ronald and by her sister, Sister Susan SSND. She is the beloved mother of Jenn (Craig) and was also the doting grandmother of their two children, Grace & Ross. Joan is also the loving mother of Dave (Silvia) of Alberta.
She is sadly missed by her husband, Alan, who enjoyed her company and friendship for close on fifty-five years......time too quickly spent!
Joan was truly a gift to Canada. A country that she loved so much. As an accomplished artist she was enthralled by the beauty of this world and used her artistry to illustrate her obvious delight in its life by painting a variety of scenes from different parts of this vast and beautiful country.......trying to cover all the seasons!!
Joan also enjoyed cooking. She took obvious delight in creating dishes of food that were not only Canadian but she also explored menus from many European countries and even ventured into ones from South East Asia.....much to the delight of the people from these countries who now lived here and who shared first hand their joy at enjoying ‘home fare’ in their new country .
But she was enraptured with a deep affection for Canada and all its peoples.........especially the Indigenous members of our Country. No matter what their origin, they were often her next work of art. The scope of her love for this country and all it offers, is revealed in the beauty of her art and the nuances of this world that she depicted in such great detail.
