Dear Markus, Harald, Stevie (the name I remember you by, from so long ago), I was sad to hear belatedly that the gentle, kind, twinkling-eye Onkel Manfried passed away, glad to see the word "peacefully" (and don't doubt it!). I'm very very sorry for the loss of your papa and the children's Opa. Take care, hope to one day cross paths again.

I had the honour of working with Manfred when I was a student and then later as a faculty member at the School of Optometry.  Manfred seemed able to build or fix anything, creating high quality research instrumentation and making teaching and research equipment last long after it should.  He had a great laugh and I treasure some of our conversations.  Manfred was an important contributor to the school.  Thanks Manfred.

Hello. Manfred and I were friends at the School of Optometry. I was always bringing equipment to him for new plugs, and it got to be a joke that whenever he saw me it was for that reason. He was a kind and happy man that I was very fortunate to know. He was a good friend. I must be teaching in Toronto on Thursday or I would come to his memorial. I will not forget him.

Manfred had a genius for electronic controls and he built many of them for my research lab.  He was also very kind and considerate to everyone.  It was a privilege to know him.  My condolences to the family.  Unfortunately, I am teaching in the clinic on Thursday, so cannot attend the memorial, but I will be thinking of Manfred.
