María, lovingly known as "Mamá Luz," passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at Tall Pines Long Term Care. A devout Christian woman, Mamá Luz was a pillar of strength and faith within her community.
Born in El Salvador, María's unwavering love for her family led her to make extraordinary sacrifices. During the tumultuous years of the Salvadoran Civil War, she undertook perilous journeys from 1983-1985, rescuing her children and grandchildren from the conflict and uniting them all in Mexico. Her courage and determination were instrumental in reuniting her family and ultimately bringing them to Canada, where they found safety and a new beginning.
Mamá Luz was a woman of deep faith and compassion. She was a regular presence at her church, where she was known for her infectious smile, wise counsel, generous spirit and could be counted on to have candy. Her love for singing hymns and praises filled the hearts of those around her.
María's legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren, who cherish the memories of her unwavering love, resilience, and strength. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
