

Sydney will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years Sylvarine Alexander (née Brehaspat). Dearest father of Varine, Dorothy, Lorene (Tom), Willie (Margaret), Rickie (Nadira), Saveta (Christopher), Alik (Zorina), and Rudolph (Gaitree). Loving grandfather of Waheeda (Kevin), Chris (Samantha), Nicketa, T.J., Elizabeth (Jaime), Anthony, Jessica, Luke, Rebecca, Alyssa, Jayden and David. Great grandfather of Kameron, Zayn and Dalia. Dear brother of Azel (Genavieve) and Martin. Predeceased by his mother Dorothy Lilia and his father John Thomas; and his siblings Onell, James, Sheeda, Brady, Jerry, John, Mamas and son–in–law Mark. Son-in-law of the late Samuel and Delcina Brehaspat. Brother-in-law of Tiny, Nora, Eileen, Joseph, Mark, Patrick; and the late Hector, Eric, and Danny.
Sydney was born July 3rd, 1940 in the village of Maria’s Pleasure on the island of Wakenaam, Guyana. He began his career as a skilled carpenter in Guyana for many years. In 1995 Sydney migrated to Canada to begin a new life with his wife Sylvarine. Following arrival in Canada Sydney then became established as a skilled CNC Machine Operator for over 10 Years before retiring at the age of 65. Sydney enjoyed time fishing, working outdoors, gardening, and spending time with his beloved children, grandchildren, and great – grandchildren. Another part of his life that was important to Sydney was his religion, serving as an elder for Knox Preston Presbyterian Church located in Cambridge for many years.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers that provided Sydney with his healthcare needs to allow him to keep him safe and comfortable at home.
Sydney’s family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4 – 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m., where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev.
