

Waldtraut was born in Wernersdorf, Danzig on September 12, 1931 to Andreas and Anna Pototzki (nee Smolnik) as the 11th of 12 children. She later immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her dear husband, Ulrich Leo Behrendt and newborn daughter. In Canada they established a loving home residing mainly in Listowel and Kitchener. Waldtraut will be greatly missed by their four children, Karin (Tom), Ron (Sherry), Greg (Brenda), and Chris (Allison).
Waldtraut also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Of Waldtraut’s siblings, she is survived by her youngest brother, Kurt Pototzki.
Waldtraut, affectionately known by many as Katie, treasured her family and made friends easily. She would love to cook for others, and people were always welcome at her dinner table. She was affectionately known also as “The Sock Lady” as she loved to knit and crochet for others, and most especially, for her family. She stitched together a family that will miss her greatly.
The family takes comfort in the fact that she is now with her dear husband of 64 years, Ulrich Leo Behrendt.
The family wishes to thank Trinity Village Studios and the LHIN nurses for their kind care. The family also is grateful to everyone at Hospice Wellington for their kind and compassionate care during her end of life.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date.
