Ben D. Jaco passed away peacefully on June 17th at 98 years of age. It was a good run. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 72 years, Libba, and two sons, Bill (Laura) and Rob; as well as 6 grandchildren, Billy (Jess), Matthew (Shelby), Alec, Andrew, Alex (Chris Trantham) and Ben; and 4 great grandchildren.
Born on October 20th, 1926 in Winona, Mississippi, the son of a postmaster in the middle of the Great Depression, Ben grew up hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He would tell great stories about all three. Ben was in the second war to end all wars. He was President of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity immediately following the war at Ole Miss where he met his wife. Ben was an accomplished Biologist, Scout Master before it got creepy, and loved the Tennessee Valley Authority and the TVA credit union where he served as chairman of the board. He was a devout Christian, Master Gardener, and loved to mow the lawn and work outdoors in general.
Ben built Bluebird houses. His bird houses were in demand and if you look in many of the fields in and around Fountain City, you might see his handiwork full of the next generation of birds.
He was a splendid gentleman, husband and father. He will be missed!
A receiving of friends will be held Monday, June 23rd from 5-7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4014 Garden Dr., Knoxville, TN 37918.
